391 kW Indiana Solar Install for Bloomington and Monroe County City Halls
Large Solar Array In Bloomington
Over the span of 2 years, Solar Energy Solutions has installed a solar array in Bloomington with nearly 400 kW of ultra-high efficiency LG 375W & LG 400W panels on the historically registered Showers Building. The building now acts as home to both the Bloomington and Monroe County City Halls but was originally opened in 1915 by the Showers Brothers Furniture company on a 15-acre campus, making it at the time one of the largest factories in the world, responsible for nearly 90% of home furniture in the US through the Sears Catalogue.
With its historic designation, the saw-tooth roof structure, and the need to route electrical to some very confined mechanicals rooms, this solar array in Bloomington was a challenging and unique project. As ever SES completed both projects to the agreed project timing and budget.
All racking and panels for the Bloomington array are bound into the roof and are set back so as to reduce visibility from the street, conduit runs are hidden from ground-level view as well and building solar production, with panel-level output monitoring is connected to the cities building energy management systems and also shared with local residents via entrance foyer kiosks.
